I’m not sure I’m proud to tell this, but the final resolution rendering took… cough… 6 weeks…
There were a lot of glossy reflection shaders with high samples just as antialiasing and shadow samples for better quality. The hair was fully responding to GI and raytraced shadows. This was rendered on a seperate machine with dual core 2.4 and 8gb ram which I use for rendering only. But basically I wouldn’t do that again as I would try to find some solution to increase rendering speed, I did that to see if it was worth to keep such high quality and learn in the future how reach it with better speed.

Thanks everyone for support and feedback you gave me during the process, see you soon

here are some closeups:

Wow. She is great! SSS looks amazing. I love her legs

better 6 weeks than 6 years i gess, but suriously, you ****ed up with somthing. No way i schould take that long ;] Or did the oryginal resolution waslike 4000x3000, anyway, you have a higher res version of the whole image, not only parts of it bigger ? ;] But 6 weeks, damn …
Oh yeas, and great work, i like it a lot, i still think the skin shader looks a bit funny, but dont go spending next 6 weeks for another render ;DDDD

Wow six weeks!?

I can definitely see that it's a high quality render thou, it's very clear, like your almost there sitting next to her. Very beautiful image, you have captured a nice atmosphere. Her dress and style remind me of arab style.

I love every detail you have, the patterns, the jewellery, the feet etc.

Wow.

wow! great!
but … 6 weeks !!
lol i wudve abandoned that one, you’ve got patience!
keep it up! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Great image and i totally agree with slocik about the skin shader … 6 weeks dude… i would restart my mac a million times… i would start thinking that there might me something wrong with my ram or osx … lol… Anyways job well done !
ciao

I think the skin looks great (do you mind share your shader?), but I think also that in such a cold out there, her skin should look drier.

CryingHorn, that six weeks must have really tested your patience  . Still, the end result is worth it! Excellent work, the pic is beautiful.

Something about the eye bothers me, I think because there is no harsh shadows around the edge of it. I am guessing you used and SSS for the eye too? maybe turn down the Self Illumination on it or something here I added a touch up I did, I hope you don’t mind,

Looks really great!!! :+1:
but one little thing: maybe her skin needs a bit more color. some red tones in her face and some light blue and red veins on her feets, neck and hands

This came out really well. 6 weeks is rediculous though. You could have done an unbiased render in that time. Did you break this down into layers or passes?

The hair could be its own pass to save time. Also the skin is a bit waxy. Perhaps the SSS shader scale is off. And probably make the diffuse layer more pale, for the vamp complextion. I’d also add a red ramp shader to soften the transistion from shadow to full lit skin. The eye also a bit large.

I loved the name, concept and the modeling itself. Those accessories she got might took hell of a time to put on her. Thanks for details and walkthrough kind of screenshots.

NG

Thanks everyone for all your comments and crits.
slocik: well you are very close  the original size ss 3600x4500, In the end I’ve cropped it to 3450x4280

Jester: Yeah I agree, however specular wouldn’t work, real reflections would kill my rendering for sure, the splat texture would be perfect but I’m not that good yet to do them I think. Here is btw skin shader:

skinshader_crow.jpg

Lordrych: I see your point, but I was worried that her eye already looks to dark, when you look at whole image, also I really wanted this time to avoid any over paints and tweaking in post, The bckg is half matte painting but everything else is pure render with color contrast change (and dof).

womball: Yes there was 3 layers: a background, all girl and region with hair alone. Background took 5 hours, all girl 2 weeks and hair 4 weeks.

Like I said there are lot glossy reflective shaders, when they reflect each other it becomes even more difficult, samples are set quite high to avoid jitter. Because I put lot of tiny details with reflections I had to set antialiasing to 4-64 to stand out them better. Shadows are raytraced. Her face receives a shadow from the transparent hood, and to avoid a hard nasty jitter I had to increase the samples of shadows too keeping in mind that shadow goes first on her hair and then from hair goes on her face. And above all 27000 (should’ve been 150000 like the “average hair count”, but I just couldn’t dare…) geometry hair strands fully responding to GI and raytraced shadows from 2 light sources is pretty harsh for dual core 2.4 running x64

In any case I know 6 weeks sounds crazy, but I really wanted to get the top quality to see how it looks like, esp with the hair. Seriously have you seen a lot of rendered geometry hair? Note that when it was rendering the first whole part I was finishing hair, tweaking them and experimenting with low res renderings. When hair were rendering I was able to brainstorm on background more deeply which was done in the end. I always try to learn when I do something by experimenting. And I always think about the quality in the first place, and only after when I reach it I start to think about how can I do that faster.

cheers

Beautiful! :+1: !

So why didint you upload the oryginal and the croped one ? We are kind of waiting here ;] I really want to look at such high rtes image ;D
Also a 1024x769 render would take about 2 days if i calculated it right, that isnt that long ;]

What 6 weeks??? :grimacing:
But it’s worth man…
The results are damn nice…:+1: :+1: :+1:
But I feel strange with the skin shader, it still feel like a wax…
But another 6 weeks? My God…
Maybe can photoshop a bit

:grimacing: Wow,that’s superb…and top row render! :+1: :+1:

eh

That is some good looking cloth–now if I could get cloth to look that natural we’d be in business…
