I agree that he looks a little off-balance from the side, but that is a pose issue, not a modelling/sculpting one. This is fantastic. I don’t know if you use Shave or anything but I think a layer of short fur would look cool on this burly bovine, personally. Maybe just hairy patches on the chest and arms and light hair everywhere else or something. I think he definately needs a layer of fur, though. Is this just for sculpting or animation? I’d love to see him in action.
Very natural good looking, he has charism and I like his expression on his face.
Nicely done about the anatomy, not exagerated like it used to be in this sort of character. My only crit would be : I’d add a little fat on his hands ( just a little ), you mentioned the rest where u’ll work, so keep it up
Very nice work regarding to me.
I wouldn’t call him fat. He could use more a pot belly and love handles. A double chin. He needs a lot more wrinkles in the folds of the fat and perhaps some scars and droopier skin to age him. Sunken in eyes with droopy lower eyelid would be good too I think. The back is too defined as is the legs and arms. If he is fat this would block muscle seperation from showing. The overall masses would be there just a lot less defined.
He does have a nice expression though.
oh my…
i have not posted any comments here what so ever in months
but this drew my attention.
what a beautiful sculpt.
amazing
excellent job
Extremely nice! I like the structure of his body very much. I would expect him though to be taller. He looks very short and unthreatening with a height like that.
Overall extremely nice work.
AWESOME! Truly cool.
We call that “Power Round”, Keron Grant and I. That’s how we view our Hulks. Old style “strongman” physiques taken up a notch. I think that’s what you’ve achieved here. So not fat exactly but surely powerful.
excellent work! The anatomy is perfectly done in my opionion. I know a few guys that look just like this (minus the bull parts of course!) A few more tweaks and it’ll be perfect.
Personally I’d play with the toes a bit they could have a bit more weight pushing down on them, splaying them out a bit.
Great work–nice take on a hybrid!
Thanks for all the input guys!
Lucky_1 , mpc2000 - I agree. After I work out the feet a little more I plan on improving the pose. Yeah, and the Maya Hair/ Fur… it scares me. Maybe I’ll try in the texture though.
Teyon , kramskoi - That’s exactly it stout and strong, like a power lifter.
womball - I don’t think I wanna make him fat exactly. But I do think loosening up the skin and adding the tips you stated to the eyes would work out well. It’d help make him seem older, and more hardened. Thanks.
Again Thanks everyone,
TJ
It’s been awhile, so I guess I’ll post a little update. Here ya go.
I’ve still got aways to go on this one. It’s starting to get boring though, I’ve been staring at it for too long. I think I’ll finish up the normal and diffuse maps then put this one back on the shelf.
Some interesting info for any Maya 8.5 users. I discovered that Maya has a tool built in to generate normal maps!!! It’s called Transfer Maps and yeah, I’m probably behind the curve on that. So for anyone else who didn’t know, you’ll find some good info in the Maya Documentation. It’s pretty simple to use and gives decent results too. Give it shot while you wait for Zmapper for Z3.
And of course comments and crits are welcome.

nice modeling…you can tweak his body pose…give it more graviry (`couse fatness)…and detail it…keep it up
Really nice model you have going here! For the skin texture I think you should leave it fairly smooth, not too dinosaur like you know but give it some wrinkles and things. A brownish color would look alright I think. Some ram horns would look really cool curled up towards the front of his head.
aw man don’t stop working on him. he’s looking great!
Don’t stop now…this guy is too cool to quit! Are you rendering with displacement? If so it looks great, what is your workflow?
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Peace be with you,
NickZ.
This one rocks!!
I really liked that you gave him some emotion, which makes this model alive, not just another muscular monster. The costume design really fits its character, too.
Hope we can see it finished soon. Great job!!
Ok, so I’m almost there. I’ve been playing with some texturing ideas. I’m sure which to go with. The only difference would be the skin tone, either light or dark.
About the workflow- I’m actually rendering with normal maps generated in Maya. I break up the highpoly Mesh into bits that Maya can handle and then use the Transfer Maps tool. As of 8.5, Mental Ray renders normal maps perfectly, no plug-ins need. The base mesh is still pretty high (30k tris) but alot more manageable and MUCH faster than displacment maps.
Thanks for the encouragement friends. Hopefully he’ll be finished by the next post.
