Dog the Bounty Hunter

nice work

I took some time off from work to dust off some old models. My company is looking for any models that might make good 3d prints, so I submitted these. The old man portrait I did in an hour and half last night. Monster.JPG

Cool! Thanks for posting! Love the vampire and the crop mutants! :+1: !

some facial detail updates. still lots more to do on the face with wrinkles and skin pores, etc. face.JPG

excellent character design!! :+1: :+1:

I think i’ve got everything on the head done except facial hair. What does anyone think of these pores? Too much? Too deep? Too many? Too perfect?1.JPG

The skinpores of that guy looks too regular, almost like a pattern of dents in a golfball. you should put some more work into making it much more irregular with both bumps and dents in the skin because no skin is perfectly smooth.

I like the little fat dude very much…
Keep it up

Max the Artist: Good eye. I think I agree. I’m going to work on more irregular pores and imperfect skin. I mean it is Dog the Bounty Hunter. Guess I shouldn’t be afraid to ugly him up.

I agree, the pores as they are now are too similar. I really like your clothing on him. Great jeans, something I need to work on. I Look forward to your progress.

skin pore revisions. I plan to bake this out to a normal map and then bake out some procedural (skin) bump maps in maya and combine them in photoshop. That should give me much more superfine detail than I can sculpt in zbrush. Time for more RAM.1.JPG

I’m not sure if you went overboard with the smooth brush or if you’re just being too light-handed, but I feel like you need to carve your lines in deeper, and add more fat to your folds, and work on giving it a sense of gravity. The surface currently looks too uniform in terms of depth. Wouldn’t worry about pores just yet.

I’m thinking the matcap may be washing out a little of the detail, but I’ll experiment with deepening the wrinkles and such. All the wrinkles, pores, etc are on separate layers so I’ll pump up the wrinkle layers and post back here tomorrow. THanks!

I increased the wrinkle depth and a few other things. Thanks for the helpful feedback.

No critique today? Come on Zbrushers!

I dig that you’re doing a sculpt of Dog. Have you attempted to add his signature hair yet?

You definitely are capturing some of his facial qualities, but to be honest, he looks a little like Dog the Zombie Bounty Hunter in these last views.

Maybe it would be good to forgo any small texturing like pores at this point and go back and refine/add to his major facial muscularity. That might breath more life into him.

We’ve got to see the hair. And Beth! Really like to see a sculpt of her :D.

EricArtMan: can you tell me exactly what major facial proportions are off? I’m trying to be objective as I can, but still can’t see the problem’s you do. Nice render on your helmet dealy by the way.

Sorry monteford2002, yes I should have been more specific.

Three things that come to mind are the areas of his forehead, mouth and jaw line. Forehead - You know how there's a subtle depression (not so subtle in some people) on either side of a person's forehead as their zygomatic process gives way to the temporal bone? In pictures like the one below, the Dog's is pretty well defined - [http://www.connietalk.com/dog_the_bounty_hunter.jpg](http://www.connietalk.com/dog_the_bounty_hunter.jpg) Mouth - It looks like the corners of his mouth could be drawn back a bit. His mouth looks a little flat. Jaw Line - In most pictures I've seen of the Dog, his jaw line is more defined. I think it might help if you connect his sternocleidomastoid muscle further behind his ear and give his jaw line more attention. But you definitely have already captured a great deal of his character. I'd just love to see you take this sculpt to the next level. And then the hair :D

ErictheArtman: Thanks for the specifics. I absolutely see it now. I will definitely rework those areas. Thanks for taking the time to critique. That’s why i love this forum. And I’m planning on doing the hair as alpha planes in maya. If that doesn’t work well, I might try shave and a haircut though. Not sure if I’m going to try to sculpt the stubble in zbrush or use fur in maya. Trial and error i suppose. thanks again.

I reworked some proportions of the skull, cheekbones, and mouth. Also added arm detail.5.JPG
