amazing sculpting, and amazing rendering.
i’m “new” to zbrush and i would like to know why you choose not to use the normal map in the face… isn’t it suppose to be normal+displacement for the perfect render?
in the rest of the body you didn’t use the displacement instead. why??
thanks
This was rendered with Mental Ray… which features were used? FG? GI? Raytracing?
Great work all around!
I think the lips appear a bit larger in the previous comparison because he has more of a relaxed pose…
amazing work!!!
well done! love those sculpted hands. And the skin shader/textures are very interesting too. Great work.
This is a wonderful piece!
I too immediately felt something was wrong with the eyes, Clint’s signature feature. So I took a few minutes to break down an analysis for you that may help improve this sculpt.
I took your image next to a photo online into Photoshop and tried to match your render closer to the color/lighting in the photo.
Next I digitally manipulated the eyes by pulling them further apart slightly and reshaping them into his classic squint. Now to become know forever as the “Clint squint”…

Clint has specific “trademarked” eyes. It’s his main feature and they are rarely, if ever, relaxed. Your model has a quite relaxed pose for the eyes, yet his brows are in the “squint” position. Either the brows need to higher and more relaxed too, or the eyes need to squint sharper.
-
Also the eyes seemed slightly too small at first but I think they are too close to center and need to come outward just a little. Maybe enlarging them by 5% might be needed.
-
The top of his skull is flared outward too much. His cranium should taper back inward toward the top.

- His hair is too soft and wispy. Making his hair more course (2x as thick actually) with harder edges and even more haphazard, less manicured will add tho his “ruggedness”.

Hope this helps!

@3DTA: you forgot the different lenses, always the same mistake with ref photos. You compare a wide lenses with an orthographic view.
BTW this isn’t the appropriate way to enjoy art. We have a decent portrait of Clint here, the likeness is strong. I prefer a more expressionistic approach in portraiture but this is only me. Its an excellent thread and hands area is still my favorite.
It’s not an exact representation of clint and there is room for improvement, 3dta gave a good critique and analysis on how this could be improved.
Good paintover, that newest Clint now looks much more accurate.

Yes, iwas wondering what looked wrong but couldnt see where to look.
But over all the work was greatly done IMO, just this little forehead fix and your good as the real one.
It’s a great model, but the essence of the likeness is missing both in your work and in the paintovers. However, 5*
Awesome work!
