In the end I decided to go for a barren land look:

Thank you for watching. ZBrush is such an amazing tool. I must thank Alex Oliver, my anatomy teacher for everything I’ve learned and Pixologic ZBrush for creating such a wonderful piece of software.

looks superb. cheers. the sss effect is nice.

@moonlitmaverick, Thank you very much… Glad you like it.

Looks good!

GREAT art work! Loved it! Congrats.

Hey Yong, finally… so great to see some new work  Love the unpainted sculpt, the detailing and rendering looks like they’re coming together real nice :sunglasses: :+1: . Hope all’s well on your side

@Derek Frenzo, Thank you :smiley:

@MukulUppal, Thanks… glad to see you on here as well.

@Etcher, Thank you so much Etcher. This one’s a rahter quick sculpt …but a fun one when it comes to ZBrushing

The sculpt looks great! That bg however really bugs me… I mean… once I got past the first image, it really looked great. But the image and the sculpt just stand so far apart.

The BG image has more detail than your sculpt and blasts off into the distance, makes the sculpt look muddy imo.

Great work regardless

Great to see you back posting some work again!
The only thing that bugs me is the background. It should be out of focus and more “exotic”, in my opinion. Anyway great work! :):+1:

@BlazeF, you are absolutely right. This one I simply use the image as Backplate.

@Santis, Thank you for the comment.

I did a quick blurring (just to make the model stands out more)

Will need to actually revisit it one day

one of my favs of frazetta, think you could upload the painting so that we could compare?

@Framedworld, it’s one of my most favorites as well. The master’s work is so amazing and gives me such inspiration to do this piece. Again thank you for your viewing.

Here’s the original by Master Frank Frasetta:

Frazetta is a the man, a great collection of his work can be found at frazetta.org
His pieces are inspiring my “death of a tribal” piece (currently on the last page of my sketchbook)

On quick glance, I’d say you need to bolster the muscle in his arms, and really identify the strangely unique shape of his abdominals. Your arms need to be turned in slightly more to really get the striation of the shoulder in that pose, it makes him look much more barbaric. also watch the size of his chest cavity. His rib cage in the painting does not protrude as much. In yours the pectorals dominate his upper frame. Frazetta was known to swap in ape anatomy for humans, pushing the barbaric and animalistic nature of the pose. whilst remain grounded in nature. I’d study some gorilla poses for this one. also his rig cage appears a bit wide.

As for the woman, done be afraid to make her meaty, beyond large breasts. Frazetta’s women were curvy, and rightfully so. give that girl more of a gut and booty. As odd as it seems itll balance the breasts, giving her less of a porn star like look.

I know thats a lot, but If I didn’t care or think you could do it, I wouldn’t have bothered writing. You can really make this piece really special and I hope you do. Its looking really nice so far. just push it that little bit more

@Framedwoeld, your critiques are really constructive. I was about to stop this piece, but after having read your comment, I will revise the piece tonight.

Again thank you so much for the frankful feedbacks… This is why i love ZBC and it’s members so much.

You work are Aldo amazing… Let me examine some more and do a proper reply in your thread.

Did a small revision to the model and relight the scene a bit…on my spare time…based on the given comments…

Love what your doing with this Frazetta study of yours so far…:+1:

One suggestion that may make it better, is to get the background colors into the figures as is done in the original…This will tie the figures into the background more, and will also give the image that oneness that’s always key to any piece to achieve color harmony throughout the entire piece…Also get that little bit of muted greens in there,…The small areas of muted greens will compliment all of the oranges and golden colors, making them vibrate visually and really add to the color harmonies that bring the whole image to life.

I think the ridge of his nose needs to be more straight, with a bit more crisp edge to it. Also the veins in his biceps could be larger.

Also, turn his elbows inward, almost like you would be holding a jackhammer.
