Answered: Clay Buildup, Red Line, Bug?

I love the clay buildup brush, but this makes it unusable. Can we get a workaround, since we all know we won’t see a patch.

Hey Nimajneb

Could you put up an image of what this looks like when you run into the issue. I just want to double check this to something else.

Thank you.

Paul

I can try, but it’s a very fast thing and I don’t see how I could screen grab it when the red lines on the screen, it’s there and gone too fast. I can show the effect easily enough. Would that be enough to help you? Maybe a video, that might catch it.

Some more information would be useful:

  1. If you turn off Lazy Mouse for the ClayBuildup brush does the issue still occur?
  2. Does it happen with symmetry on/off or both?
  3. Does having Perspective on/off make any difference?

i get this allllll the time as well, its sooo frustrating. i also have a problem where the tool will zoom(or scale in zbrush) very close into view at random with that brush…

gabo1991: Still trying to catch this little SOB on camera. I’ve recorded three short sessions, but the 15fps frame rate wasn’t enough to catch it when it happened. Also, in true car mechanic fashion, now that I want it to happen it’s not. Will keep on it.

marcus_civis: #1, I’m not sure of. As I said, it’s being cagey. #2 I can confirm, happens with symmetry off. I’m working a single hand at the moment, so it’s been off the whole time with the piece and it’s happened a few times. #3, perspective disabled, not sure about this one either. It’s so intermittent and unpredictable at this point, I’ll have to spend more time trying to eliminate variables.

Thank you for trying to get this on video. If you are able to capture this by all means send it my way. It may be easier for you to click record on in the ZScript Palette. This will just record the session as you work. When you click on End Rec then you will have a text file that you will put up for us to test with.

Thank you for all the help.

Paul

Hi Paul. I don’t know if this helps, but the other day I was using the stitch brush when this event occurred. The result was a perfect line of stitches across my mesh. The odd thing was, they happened all at once, perfectly spaced. In other words, usually you have to drag the stroke along for each stitch to roll out, but this just did it - ZAP - a whole line of them. Also, whenever it happens it seems to happen in about a 10:00 direction. I’m right handed, so it snaps a line toward the upper right corner of the screen. Curious.

Hey Will

Can you send me an image of the line that you are getting? You are just clicking undo right and everything is good.

Paul

I’ll grab a pic the next time it happens. But it only happens to me about once a day. And, yes, Control + Z fixes it fine for me. More a curiosity than anything else.

Well, I recorded a few sculpting sessions only to run into another problem with zscript recording. Basically, from what I can tell, zscript recording appears to be garbled in z4. So I’m still at square one with this in getting info for you folks. I can confirm however that this doesn’t just happen with Clay Buildup now. It’s a lazymouse issue. Happend to me using the DamStandard brush on a recent sketch.

I also get the red lazy mouse line from the cursors to the left top corner of the canvas (or was it screen) for a fraction of second, a single stroke seems to be applied and you sculpt normal after that.

It is quite annoying because it happens really fast and if you will not notice it then you have some straight line sculpted in along your model which later on might not be fun to fix.

For me this seems to be Zbrush 4 only problem. Intuos 3 + Vista 64. I never saw it happen before in Zbrush 3.5. I got it with standard brush so it does not seem to be brush related.

i get this to, only when using lazy mouse. I can confirm that it is also starts from the top left about 10 o clock and goes to the cursor. Happens to me on both a cintiq and wacom intous. Usually only when drawing quickly.

You can actually see it happen a couple times in FoOD’s latest video - Soft and Hardsurface = http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showpost.php?p=744832&postcount=689
It occurs between 03:15 - 03:20 and 06:20 - 06:24 minutes into the video (keep an eye on top left portion of screen).

I also get it about 2 - 3 times a day with different brushes and only when lazymouse is enabled. Even popped up once when repeating a clean stroke using the replay last hotkey - 1

Extra info. I once had that “red line from the corner” bug appear, that I could repeat it and undo over and over when I tried to sculpt same spot on the mesh. Basicly it looked like it was trigered by a single polygon. Every single time I tried to sculpt it, I got that bug. Once I rotated camera, I could not get that anymore in this spot.

So it looks like brush reads position of polygon in a wrong way when at certain angle or something.

Thanks guys, that’s really useful information. I will pass on your comments to the development team.

red line disappeared for me after a bat change. thanks Marcus as always. :b2:

What bat change?

I apologize if truncating the word battery confused anyone.
