d is for dog…“spanna” the doggy!
and yeah he WILL be edited later on to make him only a distant cousin! :wink:

been experimenting today trying to work out how to get displacement maps out of zbrush and working over in 3dsmax 2008 with mental ray…

not ‘perfect’ as yet but their sorta working okay now…lots of things to ‘balance out’ and seeing as no one has a tutorial on it…it’s trial and error so far!

Looks like you are having some success, I’m working on using max with normal and normal bump maps, how are you getting along, Ive managed to get some bump. Apparently the displacement will cast shadows.

hi yeah i ‘think’ i have most of using displacements sorted out now with 3dsmax and mental ray…the bit i was missing was the rgb multiply edit i needed to make in the output of the displacement map now set it to -0.5 and the map pushes and pulls displacement properly.

i watched a vid on how to use mudbox and 3dsmax and took it from there and adapted it… here’s the vid

gives you a good starting point to then edit what he does for mudbox then to use with 3dsmax2008 and zbrush 3.
