Amazing stuff there!
Really in the “Gears of War” mood.
Keep up the good work!
fantastic work!
keep rocking!
@Moni Poroni: Yes I imported a really simple base mesh from maya. I didnt know I could do all that in zbrush after watching the video you told me! Thanks.
@hunterk: Its a render from Zbrush, at the moment I dont feel capable to use any render like mental ray, and I’m really lazy to start learning those million options and checkboxes they usually have.
Thanks for the comments, I’m working for a better update!
An update with some vegetation. I think dont want to put too much arround it and make it more important than the column itself. The size of the floor tiles has been adjusted and made better debris spread over it also.
Its a screenshot from the visor:

really great work
Not sure how I missed this first time around, but it’s really great. No crits to offer, I just wanted to tell you “good job.”
Looking good! I’d make the grass around the base about 3 or 4 times taller and a little more deadish looking, but that might just be a preference. Also, make some more variation in the stones around the base, some of them need chiseled corners so they look like the chips that have come off the pillar. It doesn’t make much sense that there would be rounded river rocks that high up on the pillar unless someone put them there.
An update:
I decided to use the goZ to render the model in modo and give it a try. I love Zbrush for rendering also but I needed more control on the lightsources. Here is the render model in modo and in Zbrush. I have loose some details in modo, I think due the render size (more than half compared to zbrush) because im having “not enough memmory issues”, i’ll try to figure out.
@Scrybe: You are right about the stones!. Ill make another pass on the vegetation and debris. The thing with vegetation you know, once you start to put ivys and plants, you cant stop, and at the end it becomes more than the thing you wanted to show but yes, I think the base need more stuff, its boring right now!
Thanks for posting!

This is really nice, good job!
Hi again!
I havnt too much time to work on this but here is an update. I’ve been learning Modo this week for rendering and I have to say its a really easy software to start doing decent rendering without knowing too much (like me), and goZ work really good.
Im actually working on the leaves (I want to make a more realistic look) and trying to make a better lighting pass. Ill have to make some changes on the diffusse also (the render made some details I did not very noticeable).
Second image is from what I started, the job I did in bodypaint, and an old render.
i really love the work and detail you put into this, something as simple as a damaged column, awesome.
about the leaves, not sure what you mean, maybe they need a small amount of SSS?
how did you make all the plants and branches?
Good job, very good colacación of the small details. congratulations
Muy bonita la columna, nada como el paso del tiempo para erosionar embelleciendo…muy buenos detalles.
Another update!
Worked more on the lighting (its still a wip and a test one). Also placed the scorpion and polipainted it. Thinking to make rests of another column to put it near the camera with the scorpion and play a bit more with DOF.
@spaceboy412: All the vegetation are Maya Brushes, you can select a geometry and paint a brush over it (you have lots to choose). I have mainly selected the ivy one and then tune it to have the shape and density I wanted, converted it into poly object and make a new Uv for them (to have more than a leaf texture)
is the scorpion dancing???
lol looks like hes jumping around :).
Your column just rocks so much detail.Very well done indeed :).
About the dancing scorpion: “Thinking to make rests of another column to put it near the camera with the scorpion and play a bit more with DOF.”
That, or the stress of modeling/texturing something and the rush of placing it on the scene to see how it looks!
Hello guys,
Id like to work more on it but I simply dont have more time to. Here is the last render made in Modo using the amazing GoZ and some of the process I did while doing the project.
Even if you dont believe, I got inspired by my favourite painters, Turner and Caspar Friedrich :).

this is looking great
modeing/texturing is beautiful:D
Turned out amazing. Great job!
fantastic work, a spectacular result, amaizing render
