This is going to be really good! very stylish!
Excellent man!!!
That paintover of yours proves that you are definitely on the right track with this guy…That is Zangief allright…
Do you plan on doing other characters from video games?
I have a few unfinished characters I’d like to get back to.
One is Motaro from Mortal Kombat, I did that one a good while ago with regular poly modeling, which I’ve gotten very rusty at. I’ve been using zbrush for all my detail work since I got it. The lack of practice with traditional modeling has hurt my skills, and it’s very irritating. I’d like to redo this one because I don’t really like the way it looks now, maybe add some cool armor to it also. I don’t know if I want to make “Motaro” though, a regular centaur instead.
Then there is a Zsketch I did of Sabertooth that could use some polishing. Maybe make him more monstrous like in the Marvel VS Capcom games.
Finally, I was doing one of Earthquake from the Saumrai Shodown series, but I didn’t go for the fantasy look. I’d like to know what other people would like to see on this one, realistic build, or the fantasy proportions like in the game?
Any characters you have in mind?

This has awesome written all over it! Zangief became very near and dear to me circa SF Alpha 3. I’m glad to see him being recreated so faithfully. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about post since the Beta gallery. Great work, I can’t wait to see the rest.
If it comes out real nice, I think I’ll have it made in to a resin 3d print.

I’d love to have one of those.
Very cool! All the models look awesome. Can’t wait to see zangief in all his russian wrestling glory.
lookin good! i was never able to do a spinning pile driver
beautiful work man … keep it up
Yeah, it was hard when I first started using him, now it’s real easy though.
It helps to Just practice doing smooth circles on the D.pad or joy stick. Do a few circles, like you would when warming up before drawing.
The motion isn’t an actual 360 though, it’s f, df, d, db,b, ub, u + punch or kick. You can do the motion clock wise or counter clock wise, and you have to do it fairly quickly so he doesn’t jump.
It’s easier to do it if you buffer the command while jumping in, so you hit the last part, u+attack the second you land.
If you want to buffer it in to a combo, you have to attack and just after the move hits the opponent, start doing the motion. The last command should be right when the animation from the previous attack ends. If you do it from a standing jab, you buffer sooner. If you buffer from a med power hit, you delay the buffer a little bit.
If you do it right, you can hit the opponent, or they can block, and the piledriver or suplex is guaranteed to land.
The buffering has to be done a little faster in Street fighter 2, than in the alpha series and on.
I’ve been tweaking the body. I haven’t done anything with the hands yet, so just ignore that for now.
This is another quick over paint I did in Photoshop. I used the liquefy filter to edit the proportions, so they more match the drawings.
These are just little critiques I’m doing for my self. Something I’ve never tried before, but seems to help.
They give me a better idea of what to do or what direction to go in, without having to mess up the sculpture.
Pretty nice
And as always, critiques are welcome.
wow amazing progression from your previous models…how long and how many models between sabretooth and this one?
im at the sabretooth stage right now
I did that sabertooth like three months ago. It was a very rough model though. A 3d sketch, and the poly paint was just slapped on there to see some colors. It took me like 5 hours one night.
I was doing zsketches every night for a while, and it helped a lot.
I’ve done around 9 models after that Sabertooth.
Changed the proportions of the body using the over paint as reference.
I haven’t done any work on the hands or feet yet.
Grrr. Can’t brush teeth. Must get extension for toothbrush. Haha. Sorry I had to. Looking awesome! Great attention to anatomy
Very cool anatomy and I really like the head!
Doing some work on the hands…
I’m having a hard time on this area, because my computer is getting real slow.
Does anybody know how to use the HD feature, without actually adding HD geometry. Just so I can work real fast with the geometry I have on screen?
Some more wrinkle work on the palm area.
edit
Got to do some more work on this one today.
Reworked some of the anatomy
added more detail to the hands, no nails yet.
put some veins on him
made some stretch marks around the shoulders and waist
That’s the MudCap1 shader from Maxaya
