Darukin's Sketchbook

magbhitu: Thanks , will keep going! Going to move to body/armor very soon

McNistor: Ah, too bad - will try to keep eye out on image size from now, I’ve noticed I overdo size sometimes
But in the meantime here’s another update of the ‘mediocre’ art (you say that it’s ‘mediocre by the way’ but not sure what the purpose of this, as in I should give up? regardless I make this art as I enjoy it)

Cool design darukin
thx

Great stuff as ever! Love your balance and ratios… dont stop now! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: seems strange to me some folks can get so upset by big scale photos? And the mediocre statement does nothing for no one… constructive criticism might be more impressive and helpful…

Keep up the great work

Looks very cool man! The details are looking great.

And I’m sure most people here know that they can just open the images in a new tab so dont sweat that… or anything that guy says for that matter.

I am going to be the third person who points out how unnecessary and mean-spirited that mediocre comment was by McNistor.

I think your design is great! I do feel it works a bit better from the side than the front. The side gives off one vibe that the front doesn’t really match (IMO). Looking forward to seeing the body (if you plan on doing one).

Nice helmet design kinda ominous without eyes definately not “Mediocre” that comment came from someone who has not posted any of their own work here. All of this persons comments involve blasting people

Love it! Love every small detail! What was the inspiration behind this?
I would love to see the walkthrough video for this sculpt!

Very Very nice x 1000 = Great fantastic job.

Good design and spot on renders. Give yourself a pat on the back and then get back to work

It is my opinion folks. Should I not express it because I might hurt someone’s feelings?

To the OP: I’m not saying you should stop doing this but otherwise I don’t care what you’ll do. I’ve stated an opinion and you do whatever you want with my not so “constructive criticism”.
You people don’t realize that we are shooting ourselves in the foot every time we try to suppress someone’s opinion or ideas because it just doesn’t convenience our feelings.

I bet that if I said something like “your work is so very awesome”, nobody would jump on me for not providing constructive feedback.
Saying to someone that his work is mediocre should be criticism enough to kick his ambition in the butt and start getting better or simply ignore said criticism.

Over and out!

Thanks to you all for the encouraging replies! Means a lot guys!
Yes, indeed will I keep going. Finished body and finishing torso armor now.

Aye the side does have a vibe tough to achieve with front of mask, but hopefully most final shots will be more angle/side in such a case

Also, thanks for support guys, it seems that ‘mediocre’ comment is gone now anyhow.

@romelsalwi: In fact I am doing this project as I have been asked to create a DVD workshop for zillionarts and I agreed. So there’s the workshop to look forward to - unfortunately I think they’ll be selling this one so wont be free - I’ll see if I can put some part free Zbrush video here
regardless after it’s done though to give something back to community., for sculpting part at least.

However for hard-surface and detailing I really recommend you check out the tutorial/timelaps videos of the recent top-row Anubis thread as they show great Z4R5 techniques for detailing and hard-surface and in fact i use many of these techniques myself anyhow.

Hey there

Here’s progress of the body/torso so far:

nice work
I like
congratulations:+1:

I cannot wait to see this with a material treatment…it’s got a lot of Steampunk feeling.

nice detail!

could i fully dismantle this robot with a screwdriver?

Thanks for replies guys means a lot!
Aye, didnt intend it originally but yes does have a steampunk feel!

@jeh in:
LOL, funny, I guess you can. But I’m not sure if that was just a joke or whether it’s a crticism tbh! ^^ If it’s a design criticism I’d like to know, as I can still change things so it doesn’t look impractical/silly at this point.

All the Best!

I’m sure this is still a work in progress. I just can’t help but look at the feet. I hope they get the loving attention the rest of the body has gotten!

Hey Jerick
thanks for reply! tough to get those here lately
Aye it’s quite WIP still, haven’t modeled the feet yet ^^
Just posting WIP stages as I go
Patience!

One thing I am noticing now that I love is the pseudo muscle-fibers that still look very bio-mech and yet also tensile and fluid…just like an artificial muscle should. I see a lot of robot art that seems to use the steam engine as a kind of prototype for how movement would work in androids, but truthfully something like a synthetic muscle fiber makes a whole lot more sense!
